The fetishization of critical thinking in higher education.

Had a sudden urge to write an essay on critical thinking, but don't want to spend any energy on doing it, so I am just gonna condense a thought that came into my mind during an evening walk and I want to hear your thoughts on this.

The way we think about critical thinking in educational setting is misguided. There, I said it. This comes from someone, who has taken a course on Critical Thinking in university.
With every passing day, I hear critical thinking emphasized in public discourse, politics and, especially, education, more and more. I think it is starting to become a buzzword, just like ''design thinking'' has in various design communities. Views like ''You absolutely need to master critical thinking to be able to make the ''right'' decision in politics'', ''You wont learn anything if you wont think critically'' feed into this.
I get the feeling people are overemphasizing the application of critical thinking. This stems from aiming too damn high! I think, critical thinking is a weak tool for theoretical thought. Where critical thinking can shine and does aid the people the most is in practical, even lifestyle decisions. In asking questions like ''Is diet X truly the best diet for ALL people?'', ''Is working 9-5 the OPTIMAL work window for productivity?'', ''Do MY parents have the wisest advice out there?'', ''What happens if I don't make ''enough'' offspring?'', ''Do I NEED higher education to succeed?'', etc.
You know, in being critical of the status quo. Not in circle jerking on ''Which god is the real one, though?'' in classrooms. Ironically, I think the current approach to critical thinking has led to proliferation of broscientists in fitness industry and conspiracy theorists. Elitism has made critical thinking into a fetish!
