My fiancé grew up in a household that subscribed to the "unschooling" philosophy, which for her means she never gained fundamentals in nearly every subject. She taught herself to read, and is a voracious reader. She has a good grasp of literature, grammar, writing, and some modern philosophy, but almost no math, civics, history, science, etc.
I've been encouraging her to seek remedial education and possibly earn her GED. She is attracted to the idea, but is overwhelmed and doesn't know where to start. She's never been inside a classroom, and was indoctrinated at a young age to never trust teachers. She has since rejected her indoctrination, but still lives with the trauma of being raised in that mindset. It's heartbreaking because she's naturally very curious and hungry for knowledge.
If anyone has any ideas for resources or a basic plan, I would be so appreciative. It feels like a herculean task ahead, but feels also very important and potentially empowering. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
