Is this testing format too harsh on students?

So Im in college and I took a 30 question multiple choice test in World HistoryI. And it was choosing A.),B.),C.),or D.) on top of every single combination of ABCD (for example AB BC ABC..ect). That is basically choosing the one right answer out of 16 possibilities. Even if I'm familiar with the material this format is way too stressful for me. Is this format common? What are yall's opinion on this?
