I go to an "Early College" school where I take both High School and College classes. My career of choice is to be a visual artist/designer who also works in the music industry as an artist/producer and songwriter. I want to foster a set of skills in my craft before I am let out into the real world. However, when the time comes to further grow in my skills, the quality and time I spend on my creative endeavors are greatly reduced because of academics and its lack of awareness of student mental health.
I am in an iffy situation where I have mental breakdowns and burnouts constantly of all the stress that I have to bare being in this school (I was even diagnosed with Anxiety and Depression, partly because of the school I am in). The end goal of this school is to graduate with an associate's degree, and you'd have to take college classes and prematurely put your GPA in jeopardy with loads of work and stress. Some students thrive in that environment, but it is very hard for me to do anything when my career is more skill-focused rather than what degree you might have, and my school and everyone around me could care less about me wanting to work in the arts.
I wish there was a healthier way to deal with minds like mine.
