I'm really sorry if this isn't the right sub to ask things like this.
My teacher asked me to conduct such things I've never known how to do, specifically about the duration. For other type of the observation, the participant one, people on the internet (after random-Googling) said it can take up to years or even generations to conduct such observations. I'm not living that long. But I still respect her, though.
The subject of my research is going to be a classroom consists of 50 elementary schoolers. And the object, is classroom management using behaviorism. I know I'm not the one to engage in the teaching part. I'm just going to request the teacher to use some reward and punishment methods. The thing, though, is how long? How long am I going to observe these sessions of their learning so that my work can be considered satisfactory... by my teacher at least :). Is a session of an hour enough? She said, "write by academic journal article's standard".
And I thought ... yeah, I might as well just go asking for help.
